IDF Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, accused the Hamas terror organization of the recent attacks and violent escalation in the Gaza Strip today, Saturday (March 10), due to the fact that Hamas currently holds authority in Gaza and enables various terror organizations to continue firing rockets at Israeli civilian communities. Over all, approximately 130 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israel during the last 24 hours.
Brig Gen. Mordechai estimated that the long range and mid-range rockets were launched by Islamic Jihad terrorists, while the short range rockets were launched by terrorists of the Popular Resistance Committee. He praised the successful interception of the anti-missile Iron dome batteries and the Air Defense soldiers operating them.
"We have attacked approximately ten terrorist squads launching rockets with approximately a dozen killed - all without any exceptions, were terrorists," said Brig. Gen. Mordechai. He also mentioned that among those targeted were: Ahmen Hajaj - an Islamic Jihad operative and senior rocket launching operative, Farek Fahed - an Islamic Jihad senior operative involved in the attacks, Haze, Karaki - a terror operative recently involved in attacks. Brig. Gen. Mordechai stressed that "all the attacks were carefully planned and executed, and not civilians were killed."
"We hold Hamas responsible for the recent incidents since the terror organization currently has jurisdiction in the area. We will continue responding to any attack against Israel," said IDF Spokesperson, who added that "the Hamas movement, although is not the one performing the launchings, is not doing anything to prevent it either - We hold them responsible and will continue defending and attack as necessary."
