Dear friends,
As you probably know, about 10 days ago over 250 missiles fired from Gaza have exploded in southern Israel communities. Israeli citizens - men, women and children - are living in horrible fear of more attacks...
United with Israel initiated an emergency campaign to build bomb shelters in southern Israel. Thanks to your support, we will be delivering 2 above-ground portable bomb shelters in the Ashkelon area on Monday April 2. Please follow our Facebook page and website to see the results of your generosity.
While this was a great start, MANY MORE of these shelters are needed. We must appeal to you once again - to please help protect the residents of southern Israeli towns.
HELP US BUILD MORE BOMB SHELTERS IN ISRAEL
http://unitedwithisrael.org/build-shelters
Imagine hearing a frightening siren blaring "Code Red, Code Red" and having just 15 seconds to run for cover. Imagine never being able to walk beyond a short distance of the nearest shelter. And in many areas there are simply no shelters that are near.
Can you imagine the fear and terror of a rocket whistling down, not knowing whether it will land a mile away or directly on your head? Or the sudden shock when you feel the impact and the sense the relief that you're still alive but the fear that your friends and family may not be so lucky.
Imagine if you were a little child and had to live with this EVERY DAY...
PLEASE HELP US BUILD BOMB SHELTERS IN ISRAEL TODAY!
http://unitedwithisrael.org/build-shelters
Over 12,000 Kassam Rockets have been fired into southern Israel in the last 10 years - and OVER 250 IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. These missiles deliberately target Israeli civilians, causing chaos, destruction and death. An entire generation of children has been traumatized by the terror of ongoing rocket attacks.
Nearly one million Israeli residents are within striking range of Gaza. There is an immediate and dire need to protect Israeli citizens from missile attacks. Many more bomb shelters are needed.
HELP PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF ISRAEL TODAY!
http://unitedwithisrael.org/build-shelters
Above-ground portable shelters need to be deployed in vulnerable Israeli communities. These shelters can be moved to where they are needed most. They will provide safety for Israeli citizens as they go about their daily lives. They are built to prevent the penetration of bullets, shrapnel and missile fragments and can withstand direct hits. While building underground shelters can take months, these pre-form units take only a few weeks to build and can be delivered and deployed immediately.
Although these shelters cannot provide Israeli communities with peace, they provide both safety and peace of mind.
We ask you to please forward this email to your family and friends. They too, deserve the opportunity to help protect the citizens of Israel. May God bless you for your kindness and generosity.
HELP BUILD MORE BOMB SHELTERS IN ISRAEL TODAY!

We thank you for support and for standing united with the People, Country and Land of Israel.
With Blessings from Israel,
The 'United with Israel' Family

New radar systems introduced to secure Gaza border
New radar systems introduced to secure Gaza border
Number of attempted and successful border infiltrations have dropped significantly since introduction of new systems Date: 18/03/2012, 11:24 AM Author: Florit Shoihet
The unique qualities of the new radars, “Baron” and “Baroness”, are thanks to a revolutionary new scanning technology. The radars are equipped with a wide view scanner, allowing them to view an entire area without rotating like traditional radars, eliminating blind spots. The new radar can scan an entire section of the border, tracking multiple targets simultaneously without rotating and leaving an area vulnerable. The radar is also sensitive to objects moving at low speeds, able to pick up lizards and trees waving in the breeze.
The radar, made by Elta Systems, is based on technology that allows it to both detect and track targets while continuously monitoring the area at the same time - offering an unprecedented level of control. The “Baron” and “Baroness” radars will be deployed around the Gaza Strip. Differences between the two models include range and angle of detection. Their primary use will be to detect hazards approaching the border fence, locating targets both on foot and in vehicles and continuing to track their progress.
An additional advantage to the new systems is their exceptionally high resolution. These improvements will allow for an accurate assessment of terrorists approaching the border.
Officials from the Southern Command have stated that since the new system’s integration it has been placed along the border and has been dramatically proving its usefulness. According to the Southern Command, since the deployment of the radars, both attempted and successful border penetrations have dropped 70-80%. In addition, the radar provides excellent coverage of operational areas, assisting troops in the field. Officers involved with the new system have said it is a system “that has proven itself.”

To the President Obama
Dear President Obama,
In recent years we often felt for my efforts in defense of Israel. This commitment continues unabated forever. We know that the best friend of Israel is the United States of America, land of freedom and courage. And we love freedom, and Courage, like all the Israelis. For this reason we ask you to confirm its commitment made during the AIPAC with President Shimon Peres. The United States of America and throughout the Western world must support Israel in its path for the affirmation of freedom and peace. The Israelis say their commitment and need peace for nearly four thousand years, facing all the enemies that history has imposed on them by the Egyptians to the Iranians.
For this reason we ask you to intervent officially.

The Israel Air Forces' Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted a Grad-type rocket launched toward the southern city of Be'er Sheva on Wednesday, despite a truce reached between Israel and Gaza militants earlier this week, while a second projectile landed in an open field in the vicinity of the town of Ofakim.
It was not the first time since the Egyt-mediated ceasefire that rockets were fired at Israel's south, a Grad-type Katyusha rocket also hitting a residential area in the southern town of Netivot late Tuesday. One person was lightly wounded.

In addition, even prior to the attack on Netivot, seven rockets and five mortar shells were fired toward southern Israel throughout Tuesday. They exploded in open areas and there were no reported casualties.
All in all, about 200 rockets have exploded in Israeli territory since the latest round of violence between Israel and Gaza broke out on Friday and until the Israel Defense Forces and Gaza militants agreed to cease fire.
Responding to rocket fire, the Israel Air Force carried out 37 airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, 19 strikes targeted rocket-launchers and 18 targeted weapons warehouses in response to rocket attacks.
Twenty-six Palestinians were killed as a result of IAF strikes on Gaza. Out of these 22 were militants and 4 were civilians who were in the area of IAF strikes, but were not involved in the rocket fire.
Earlier Tuesday, IDF officials announced that, following the ceasefire, 207,000 schoolchildren in communities 7-40 kilometers from Gaza would be returning to their studies on Wednesday, for the first time since the beginning of the week.

Petizione al Ministro on.
Ettore Lomaglio Silvestri
A questa petizione è già giunta l'adesione dell'on. Enzo Raisi.

Terrorists in Gaza fired rockets into Israeli territory for the third straight night, while the Iron Dome defense system continued to intercept rockets fired at the South's larger cities.
The latest rocket launches came amid an escalation in violence along the Gaza border that began after the IAF foiled a major terror attack, killing the secretary general of the Popular Resistance Committees, Zuhair Qaisi in a bombing on Friday.
At least four rockets were fired towards Ashkelon Sunday evening. The Iron Dome defense battery deployed near the city intercepted one rocket, while the other three landed near the city in open fields. No damages or injuries were caused in the attacks.
Earlier, a rocket fired towards Ofakim - a small city about halfway between Beersheba and the Gaza Strip - also landed in an open area causing no damage or injuries.
At least five rockets landed in the Eshkol Regional Council, which abuts the Gaza Strip and includes a number of small communities. The rockets landed in open fields. No casualties resulted from those attacks.
The Home Front command along with the heads of a number of local authorities in Israel’s south gave the order on Sunday night to cancel school in all towns and cities located between 7km to 40km from the Gaza Strip for the second day in a row.
The ban applies to the cities of Ashkelon, Ashdod, Beersheba, Netivot, Sderot, Kiryat Malachi, Gadera, Rahat, Yavneh, Lakiyeh, and the Gan Yavneh Regional Council.
Schools in the western Negev that are closer than 7km to the Gaza Strip will hold class as usual, as they have the necessary reinforcement to protect against the incoming rockets, the Home Front Command said Saturday.
Sapir College in Sderet will stay open for classes on Monday despite the ongoing rocket attacks threatening southern Israel.
A rocket launched from the Gaza Strip hit a school in Beersheba on Sunday, exploding in its courtyard and damaging its outer walls. A second rocket slammed into the middle of a residential neighborhood in the city, damaging 15 homes and causing several residents to suffer shock.

"This is the first strike inside a city since the beginning of the current escalation," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said of the attack.
Magen David Adom paramedics were on the scene, treating Beersheba residents for trauma and shock.
On Sunday, 40 rockets were fired into Israel and 14 were intercepted by the Iron Dome counter rocket defense system. A fourth battery will be deployed in the coming weeks. IDF sources said that around 160 rockets have been fired into Israel since the beginning of the violence on Friday afternoon.
Yaakov Katz, Ben Hartman and Yaakov Lappin contributed to this report.

After IDF claimed last video was fake, terror group publishes new clip claiming device mounted on vehicle is in their hands. 'We have a few cards up our sleeve,' they threaten
The Islamic Jihad published a video clip on Saturday showing a multi-barrel rocket launcher in action, claiming the device has been used to fire rocket barrages from the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
A similar clip was been published by the terror organization in October 2011, however at the time IDF officials claimed it was a fake. For this reason, Islamic Jihad officials emphasized the organization's logo attached to the car door. The vehicle is identical to the vehicle shown in the last video.
"It's meant to prove that we have the vehicle in Gaza and that the video isn't fabricated, as some claimed the first time," said Islamic Jihad Spokesman Abu Ahmed.
Watch the clip:
According to Maan news agency, Islamic Jihad’s military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, said in a statement that 10 members were killed in IDF strikes. A total of 12 people have been killed in Gaza according to reports.
Since Friday, following the targeted killing of Zuhir al-Qaisi, the secretary-general of the Popular Resistance Committees terror group, the situation in the south has escalated. According to the IDF, al-Qaisi was planning a big terror attack via Sinai.
The Islamic Jihad also claimed to have launched 41 Grad rockets, 20 homemade rockets, six mortar shells and three 107-mm rockets. Ahmed boasted, saying his people managed to operate a new launcher despite frequent IAF flights over the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours.
Ahmed remarked that the terror organization has a few extra cards up their sleeve, which they have yet to use against Israel.

Israeli Air Force: Bombing Gaza or Pinpoint Strikes?
Israeli Air Force: Bombing Gaza or Pinpoint Strikes?
Posted on
So which is true?
Here’s a fact: The IDF’s civilian-to-terrorist death ratio is the lowest in the world. The former Commander of the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan, Col. Richard Kemp, went on record as saying:
“The UN estimate that there has been an average three-to-one ratio of civilian to combatant deaths in such conflicts worldwide. Three civilians for every combatant killed. That is the estimated ratio in Afghanistan: three to one. In Iraq, and in Kosovo, it was worse: the ratio is believed to be four-to-one. Anecdotal evidence suggests the ratios were very much higher in Chechnya and Serbia. In Gaza, it was less than one-to-one.”
Further sources, which remain accurate since 2008, confirm:
From a 1:1 ratio between killed terrorists and civilians in 2003 to a 1:28 ratio in late 2005. Several IAF mishaps in 2006 lowered the ratio to 1:10, but the current ratio is at its lowest ever–more than 1:30.
So for every dead civilian, 30 terrorists are killed. And yet, the sad fact is, Israeli Air Force strikes sometimes result in civilian casualties. This is a result of the human shield tactic, a method adopted by Hamas and other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip. Basically, terrorists hide within houses, schools, mosques and other “harmless” environments, and use them as a cover from which to shoot rockets. (Read more about the terror tactics used in Gaza.)
The IDF tries to minimize civilian casualties anyway. How?
- “Pinpoint targeting” – A phrase you’ll hear a lot in the Israeli Air Force. It means singling out terrorists and targeting them in a way which won’t endanger bystanders. This can often be hard to do, since terrorists prefer to hide in crowded areas. IAF pilots can even single out one target from an entire residential complex.
Example: The terrorist squad targeted on Friday–the team planning a terror attack from Sinai–was struck while driving a car, and despite being in a thronging neighborhood, only the two terrorists were hit.
2. Aborted strikes - The IAF won’t shoot at any cost. Only when the terrorists are in the act of firing their rockets, and when the chance of harming bystanders is minimal, can an IAF pilot strike. Many times strikes have been aborted at the last minute due to last-minute interference, such as civilians coming too close.
Example: View an IAF strike aborted at the last minute:
3. Advanced technology - The IAF uses advanced technology to upgrade its targeting capabilities and make sure its strikes are as precise as possible. Enormous efforts have gone into making sure the weapons and aircraft will be able to complete the job without harming civilians.
Example: Read more about the F-16I ‘Sufa’ and the Delilah missile, both technologies used in pinpoint strikes. An excerpt to give you a better idea:
Let’s say Delilah is approaching a target and in the last moment the navigator sees… that there are civilians in the target zone. All he needs to do is push a button and Delilah aborts its attack, returns to the air and keeps loitering in the target zone until it receives new instructions.
Bottom line: ‘Pinpoint strikes’ is more than just a phrase. For now, the IDF’s civilian-to-combatant death ratio remains the lowest in the world.
IDF to deploy 4th Iron Dome battery within weeks
IDF to deploy 4th Iron Dome battery within weeks

Israel will deploy a fourth battery of the Iron Dome rocket-defense system in the coming weeks, IAF Colonel Tzvika Haimovitch said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters at the location of an Iron Dome battery which is protecting the city of Ashdod, Haimovitch, who served as the commander of the IAF unit responsible for the Iron Dome, said that the system was demonstrating impressive results and "was being stretched to the max."
On Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu visited the Iron Dome battery protecting Ashdod, and was briefed on the performance of the system. The IDF is hoping to secure funding from the government to enable the continued production and delivery of additional Iron Dome batteries and interceptors.
Since the beginning of the violence between Israel and Palestinian terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip, the three Iron Dome batteries deployed in the South ve successfully intercepted 39 rockets, including 11 as of 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The battery protecting Ashdod has successfully intercepted nearly all of the rockets that were fired into the city.
Since Friday afternoon, when Israel assassinated the leader of the Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza, 93 rockets have landed inside Israel, and over 24 targets have been bombed by the IAF throughout the Gaza Strip.
"The interception rate has been high, but there is no such thing as a hermetic defense, and only a combination of Iron Dome with other defensive measures is what will provide the utmost protection for the public," Haimovitch said. "The more batteries we deploy, the better the protection we will be able to provide."
The Iron Dome's interception success rate this year is over 90 percent, up from 75% in 2011.

The Iron Dome is designed to defend against rockets at a range of 4-70 kilometers. Each battery consists of a multi-mission radar manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries and three launchers, each equipped with 20 interceptors called Tamirs.
The radar enables Iron Dome operators to predict the impact site of the enemy rocket and decide not to intercept it if it is slated to hit an open area. Each interceptor costs around $50,000 and usually two are fired at rockets slated for interception.

IDF: Increase in Schalit prisoners' terror activity

The IDF is concerned with the growing involvement of Palestinians released in the Gilad Schalit prisoner exchange in terror activity in the West Bank, a senior IDF officer said Sunday.
The officer said that since the beginning of the year the IDF has noticed a dramatic increase in attempts by Palestinian terror organizations, and particularly Hamas, to smuggle money into the West Bank to finance their activity.
In January and February there was a dramatic increase at West Bank crossings, particularly at the Allenby Bridge which is between Jordan and Israel, with NIS 2.2 million being confiscated in comparison to just NIS 500,000 confiscated in all of last year.
According to a senior IDF officer, some of the terrorists released under the Schalit deal are trying reestablish terrorist activity in the West Bank and particularly to kidnap IDF soldiers or Israeli citizens.
The source said there was a connection between smuggling money and the release of 55 Palestinian terrorists to the territory under the Schalit deal.
"Establishing new terror infrastructures requires a lot of money," the officer added.
The officer also voiced concern about a drop in arrests made by Palestinian Authority security forces in the last year.
According to the officer, PA security forces arrested 2,200 terror suspects between 2009 and 2010 but in 2011 arrested less than 700. The drop, he said, was the result of the reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah even though the PA is not allowing Hamas to insert its own people into the ranks of the security forces.
While there was a drop in the number of arrests, the officer said that Israel was satisfied with the PA's continued operations against known terrorists cells in the West Bank. Just last month the PA foiled a plot by terrorists in Kalkilya to abduct an Israeli civilian.
Meanwhile Sunday, OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrahi was replaced by outgoing Judea and Samaria Division commander Brig.- Gen. Nitzan Alon.

Escalation is good for Israel
Escalation is good for Israel
Hamas' continued preference for diplomatic action in the face of Israel's attacks on Gaza is less than convenient for those who desire an Israeli strike on Iran.
By Zvi Bar'elTags: HamasIslamic JihadGazaBashar Assad
Advocates of a strike on Iran couldn't have hoped for a more convincing performance than the current exchange of fire between Israel and Gaza. "A million Israelis under fire" is only a taste of what is expected when Iran's nuclear project is completed. When that happens, seven million Israelis will be under the threat of fire and nuclear fallout.
This is what happens when "only" the Islamic Jihad fires Grad rockets, when Hamas stays out of the fight, and when the "miraculous system" that prevents missiles from falling on kindergartens still works. Under the threat of a nuclear Iran, miracles won't help, and people in Tel Aviv will also be forced to hide in bomb shelters or escape to Eilat.
Here’s the proof: There is no alternative to striking Iran and there is no better time than the present, when the weather permits and world diplomacy is preoccupied with Syria. For Israelis, there is no better proof that no harm will come to them as a result of an attack on Iran than the performance of the Iron Dome anti-rocket system, which has demonstrated a 95% rate of effectiveness. The escalation in Gaza is good for Israel – that is, for that part of Israel that wants to strike Iran.
It is hard to understand what basis there is for the assertion that Israel is not striving to escalate the situation. One could assume that an armed response by the Popular Resistance Committees or Islamic Jihad to Israel's targeted assassination was taken into account. But did anyone weigh the possibility that the violent reaction could lead to a greater number of Israeli casualties than any terrorist attack that Zuhair al-Qaisi, the secretary-general of the Popular Resistance Committees, could have carried out?
In the absence of a clear answer to that question, one may assume that those who decided to assassinate al-Qaisi once again relied on the "measured response" strategy, in which an Israeli strike draws a reaction, which draws an Israeli counter-reaction. Everything is proportionate, and Israel controls the height of the flames, while proclaiming that "Israel does not seek to escalate the situation."
Is that so?
And what IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz's statement a few weeks ago that there will be no alternative to a large-scale operation in Gaza? And what if the Islamic Jihad does not adopt the Israeli strategy and stop firing? Will Gantz's threat finally materialize, catapulting Israel into a "Cast Lead Two" scenario?
Unlike Israel, Hamas has an understandable interest in putting an end to the escalation, which caught it off guard. The organization is mired in an internal political struggle. After fleeing Syria, its leadership is looking for a new home. The dialogue with Fatah has yet to produce an agreement on a unity government, and its ideological side must deal with the willingness of the Muslim Brotherhood, its ideological umbrella organization, to carry on a dialogue with the U.S. and respect the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel.
Hamas, while it does not fully control the activities of all of the organizations in Gaza, has managed to secure important agreements with most of them, including the Islamic Jihad, which has joined the effort to reconcile with Fatah. Hamas is also dependant on Egypt regarding the passage of civilians through the Rafah Crossing and merchandise through the network of tunnels between the two territories, as well as for the fuel that enables it to provide Gazans with electricity. Even if its leadership was still located in Damascus, Hamas cannot disconnect itself from Egypt and remains shackled to its foreign policy toward Israel.
This dependence on Egypt has managed in the past to produce extended ceasefires which have proven themselves in recent months, especially after the signing of the reconciliation agreement with Fatah, which produced Khaled Meshal's declarations that Hamas would restrict itself to nonviolent forms of struggle against Israel.
However, it seems that the change in Hamas not only hasn't convinced Israel, but even stands in the way of its "no partner" policy and could sabotage its efforts to head off the creation of a Palestinian unity government, which would lead to renewed efforts at the UN to secure an independent Palestinian state.
Thus, Hamas must be dragged toward military activity against Israel, and nothing is easier, at least in Israel's estimation, than to launch a "unilateral" attack against a wanted non-Hamas man, to wait for the response to come, and hope that Hamas joins in.
So far, it hasn't happened. Hamas still prefers the diplomatic channel and has carried on intensive diplomatic contacts over the past two days with Egypt's Supreme Military Council. Israel apparently needs to wait for another opportunity. Meanwhile, however, it has already managed to turn the attention of Arab diplomacy away from Syria and toward the Israeli-Palestinian issue.
Assad must be pleased.

PM Netanyahu to Cabinet on situation in south: "Last Friday, an arch-terrorist who organized many attacks against the State of Israel was eliminated." IDF Spokesperson
Zuhir Kaisi, born in 1963, from Gaza City, was the head of the Popular Resistance Committee terror organization and was also its political commander. Kaisi was among the leaders who planned, funded, and directed the combined terror attack that took place on Route 12 in August 2011, in which 40 people were wounded. Kaisi was also involved in rocket fire at Israel, as well as in the attack on the Nahal Oz fuel terminal in April 2008, in which two Israeli citizens were killed. In addition, Kaisi was in charge of transferring funds from Hizbullah to terror organizations in the Gaza Strip. Following the strike, terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip launched a rocket and mortar barrage directly targeting Israeli civilians. The barrage is currently ongoing. On Friday night, IAF aircraft targeted two weapon manufactoring facilities and two rocker launching sites in the nothern Gaza Strip, a weapon manufactoring sites in the central Gaza Strip and a terror activity sites in the southern Gaza Strip. The targeting was in direct response to the rockets fired at Israeli southern communities. In addition IAF aircraft targeted a terrorist in the central Gaza Strip and six addtional terrorist squads who were in the final stages of preparing to fire rockets at Israel from separate locations in the nothern and central Gaza Stirp. On March 10, in response of the ongoing rocket fire at Israel, IAF aircraft targeted two terror activity sites in the northern and southern Gaza Strip, and a weapon storage facility in the northern Gaza Strip. On Sunday morning (March 11), IAF aircraft targeted a terrorist at a rocket launching site in the northern Gaza Strip from which two rockets were fired at the city of Ashdod a short time beforehand, and later targeted a terrorist, moments before he was to fire a Grad rocket at the city of Ashdod. |

Two Grad rockets struck Be'er Sheva on Sunday afternoon, one hitting a school that was empty at the time and the other striking a parked car in a residential neighborhood. Homes were damaged and one person was reported to be in shock.
This marked the first time since the most recent round of escalation began in Israel's south on Friday that rockets succeeded in reaching a main urban area in Israel.

The Iron Dome system has intercepted more than 30 rockets since Friday. More than 90 rockets have fallen in Israeli territory during that time. The Iron Dome is designed to only intercept rockets identified as heading toward populated areas.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel has struck a strong blow against terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip over the past several days.
"We have collected a high price from them and we are still collecting," Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting. "We will continue to operate as long as it is necessary."

Gaza terrorists might target Tel Aviv
Gaza terrorists might target Tel Aviv
As rockets continue to fall on Israel's south, police fear an escalation that may see long-range rockets targeting Tel Aviv.
11 March 12 11:02, Globes’ correspondent
Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip continued Saturday night, and police are expressing concern that the current round of fighting could escalate. Police fear that terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip might use weapons that have not yet been seen - long-range rockets that could reach metropolitan Tel Aviv. The police and the IDF Home Front Command are not taking any chances, and are planning for the worst case scenario. A senior police official told Hebrew daily “Ma’ariv” that there are serious concerns that terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip might use weapons not yet employed. We know that terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip have long-range missiles with a range of 60-70 kilometers that are ready to be launched towards Israel,” he warned.
”The question now is, are they planning to launch them deep into Israeli territory or not? We are preparing for all scenarios, and three of our fronts are on full alert: Tel Aviv, Central Israel, and Jerusalem. The cities of Bat Yam, Holon, Rishon LeZion, Ness Ziona, Rehovot, and Beit Shemesh are also being prepared.”
At this point, it seems that the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip are not interested in using long-range rockets, for fear of a strong Israeli retaliation and even a large-scale military operation.
Over the weekend, more than 100 Grad and Kassam rockets and mortar bombs were fired into Israel. The Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted more than 30 rockets that were heading for cities. The IDF is continuing its counterattacks in the Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian reports, there have been 16 dead and dozens injured so far.

As the rockets continued to hit communities in Southern Israel on Sunday, the battle for promoting information in real time about what was unfolding on the ground in Gaza and in the Israeli communities nearby was heating up online too.
Almost as the first barrage of rockets fired into Israel were reported Friday night, a new stream, #Israelunderfire, opened up on the social media networking site Twitter, with local residents and Israeli government officials using the hashtag to tell their version of the events. Tweeps in Gaza and pro-Palestinian bloggers worldwide used different hashtags to tell their version of events too.
On the Israeli side, a curious mix of citizens journalism, with eyewitnesses in Beersheva, Ashkelon and elsewhere, reported on rockets as they fell, life in a shelter and pinpointed unfair media coverage of the escalation in violence.

Meanwhile IDF and government spokespeople also tried to provide clearer information on the injured and play down some of the harsher accusations lauded by pro-Palestinian groups online.
On Friday, as the news broke of increased rocket fire, the official @IDFSpokesperson twitter account announced: “1 million Israelis live every day with 15 seconds to run for their life in case of a rocket attack.”
That comment was retweeted around the world and translated into many different languages as supporters of Israel woke up to the news of the escalation in attacks on Saturday morning.
Pro-Israel supporters promoted the #Israelunderfire stream and worked on other platforms around the web to make sure that Israel’s side of the story was also being told.
IDF Spokesperson to the international press Avital Leibovich continued tweeting on through Sunday, and after each incident updated her account.
“Clarification:the IDF destroyed launching pits from the Jabalya area. The range of the rockets there is 40 km.” she wrote mid-afternoon on Sunday.

Rockets continue to hit south; one Grad intercepted. IDF chief says Israel does not seek escalation 'but Hamas controls Gaza'
Several people suffered anxiety attacks on Sunday after parts of a rocket
intercepted by the Iron Dome system hit a car and a water pipe in Beersheba.
Some 25 rockets were fired at Israel on Sunday.
Earlier, two rockets exploded in open areas near Ofakim, another in Ashdod and another in Gan Yavne. One of the Grads was intercepted and its residues landed in a local resident's backyard. Damage was caused to a hen-house in the Ashkelon area. An additional Qassam rocket and mortar shell hit open areas at the Eshkol Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.

Meanwhile, the IDF continued efforts to stop the rocket fire. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said that an Air Force jet hit a terrorist who was preparing to fire a rocket at Ashdod. The IDF said that the same terrorist had fired a rocket at the city earlier on Sunday.
IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said Sunday that more than 120 rockets were fired at Israel since Friday. He noted that 20% of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome system. "The IDF has demonstrated accurate interception abilities," he said.
"The IDF has retaliated and will continue to retaliate with force and sensitivity against any firing directed at Israel. Hamas and other terror groups continue to gain strength at an alarming rate. We do not seek escalation but Hamas controls Gaza. "

The statement also noted that a 14-year-old teen from the Gaza Strip who was not involved in the fighting was also killed.
Since Friday, the IDF has carried 21 strikes in Gaza, including 13 airstrikes meant to thwart rocket launching attempts and eight attacks against weapons, factories and depots.
